Nook Simple Touch/Nook Glowlight

  1. Go to the GFJ Library’s Online Resources page, and click Download Zone.
  2. You will have to download and install both Overdrive and Adobe Digital Editions to your computer. Links to both downloads are found within the Download Zone. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the link that says “software.”
    1. Downloading OverDrive:
      1. Click on the OverDrive Media Console icon.
      2. Choose your version and click “Download Now.”
    2. Downloading Adobe Digital Editions:
      1. Click on the Adobe Digital Editions link from the Digital Software section of the navigation bar.
      2. Select “Get Adobe Digital Editions” from the top of the next screen.
      3. On the Adobe page, select Download Now, under Next Steps, from the menu on the right.
      4. Selecting “launch” will start installing Adobe Digital Editions.
      5. To use an eBook reading device like a Nook, Kobo, or cell phone, or to read an eBook on multiple computers, you must create an Adobe ID to use with Digital Editions. Do not register anonymously.
      6. To register a computer to your Adobe Digital Editions account when you have finished installing the program, open Adobe Digital Editions, select the dropdown arrow next to “Library” and select “Authorize This Computer”.
      7. To authorize an eBook reading device, connect it to the computer while Adobe Digital Editions is open, and follow the prompt.
  3. You are now ready to download and read books using the Download Zone.
    1. If you have a specific title or author you are looking for, you can also use the search bar on the top right side of the screen.
    2. The navigation bar on the top contains links to the different types of books available in the Download Zone, very similar to the different sections of books you would find in the library. To browse a section, click on the link.
  4. When you find a book you want to check out, click on the icon of the cover to arrive at the title detail. This will give you more information on the title. To proceed with checking it out, click “Borrow.”
  5. Select your home library.
  6. Log in with your library card number and PIN. (Please contact the library if you need assistance with your PIN number.)
  7. You have now checked out the book. It appears on the bookshelf of your account.
  8. To download it to your computer, click download.
    1. Make sure you are selecting the correct format- epub or pdf for a Nook or most other eReaders apart from a Kindle. Once you download a format you are NOT ABLE to change the format, so make sure you double check before downloading.
  9. The book will open in Adobe Digital Editions. Click the icon in the top left of Digital Editions that looks like book spines to open the library view.
  10.  Attach your Nook to the computer using its USB cable. The Nook will be visible in the left toolbar of Digital Editions.
  11. To move a book to your Nook click on the icon of the book in Digital Editions and drag it to where your Nook is listed on the left. The book will be available in your Nook by navigating to Library and then selecting ‘My Files’ from the top library tool bar. Library books will be in the Digital Editions folder.
  12. To return a book, click on the arrow at the top left of a book in Digital Editions and select ‘Return Borrowed Item’ from the dropdown menu.
