Summer Reading 2026!
These projects are funded by Your Friends of the George F. Johnson Memorial Library, Visions Federal Credit Union, Wegmans, and the Earlville Opera House’s Arts in the Community Grants Program, made possible by the NYS Legislature with support of the Office of the Governor, and administered by the New York State Council on the Arts. Summer Story Times
Children & caregivers can join us every week from 7/6-8/7! Registration not required.
- Mother Goose: Wednesdays @ 10 for ages birth-2. Registration recommended here.
- GWJ Park: Tuesdays @ 10am for ages 2-5 on Oak Hill Ave.
- Highland Park: Thursdays @ 10am for ages 2-5 on Hooper Rd.
Family Fun Fridays
Fridays @ 11am intended for children ages 6 and under with their caregivers. No registration required.

Chalk Art Extravaganza
Wednesday, 8/5 from 6-7:30pm – Create colorful sidewalk masterpieces with the whole family! Artist Eric Maruscak will share tips and inspiration as we make art together outside the library. No registration required.
Jurassic Bingo Bash
Wednesday, 8/12 @ 6pm: Bring the whole family for a roaring good time at Dino Bingo Night! Play bingo together, enjoy light snacks, win fun prizes, and take part in dinosaur-themed activities throughout the evening. No registration required.
Read to a Therapy Dog
Thursday, 8/13 from 6-7:30pm: Stop by the Youth Services Room to read to a therapy dog! No registration is required.
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a fun, exciting, and free way to start your child on the path to success! Any child ages birth to 5 years can participate, just follow these steps:
- Register: Sign up at your local 4CLS library, or online at 4clsny14.readsquared.com
- Track your reading: Use the reading trackers to record how many books you are reading.
- Every Book Counts: Even if your child wants to hear the same book again and again, you can count it each time. You can also count the books your child hears in storytime, in daycare or preschool, or with a friend or family member, as long as your child listens to the entire book.
- 100-Book Milestone: Each time you read 100 books, bring your reading tracker to the library to receive a new sticker on your Reading Achievement Chart. Take home a new reading tracker sheet for your next 100 books.
- 1,000 Books: You did it! Come celebrate at your library and see your child’s name placed on a bookplate in the library collection.
- Keep on Reading: Don’t stop at 1,000! Keep reading together; there’s more learning ahead!
One thousand books may seem like a lot, but if you read just one book a night, you’ll meet your goal in less than 3 years. If you read three books a night, you could reach your goal in just one year! Ask our friendly staff for suggestions—we’re here to help you on your journey to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten!
