Children’s Librarian opening at Tompkins County Public Library (Ithaca)

The Tompkins County Public Library is seeking a full-time Librarian I for the Youth Services Department. 

 Duties will include working with Youth Services staff on all aspects of collection development including the selection and management of children’s fiction, nonfiction, and young adult fiction, providing friendly and exceptional references services to children and parents, assisting patrons with readers advisory, the library catalog, Internet, the early learning stations, and public programming as needed.  Occasional hours in Adult Services as needed.

 The ideal candidate will have a commitment to customer service, be able to work effectively as part of a team, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to prepare statistical data and/or budgets.  A thorough knowledge of children’s and young adult literature,  an understanding of the stages of children’s development, and the ability to provide reference and reader’s advisory to people of all ages is essential. 

 The position is available immediately; 35 hours per week, some evenings and Saturday will be required.  Starting salary $22.86, excellent benefits.
